Mining For Gold in Two Acts

colourschool proudly presents two events in one evening. Taking gold, a subset of yellow, as their subject, Sara Mameni, backed by the musical duo extraordinaire, Hildegard, performs a short work that re-interprets the hue in a comic and inventive form.

Sophie Brodovitch continues our investigation into gold with a presentation and discussion on the 1980s’ hit television series, The Golden Girls, starring Bea Arthur, Betty White, and Rue McClanahan.

Host Biographies

Sophie Brodovitch is a soon-to-be recent graduate of the UBC Critical and Curatorial Studies Masters program. Born and raised in Vancouver, she completed her undergraduate degree in Visual Arts at the University of Western Ontario. Fueled by her work in the Vancouver film industry, her diverse interests have focused on the cultural implications of film and television production and the influence of mass-media and pop culture on contemporary culture. Nonetheless, she does not own a TV and sleeps through 90% of movies. Sophie no longer has an appendix.

Sara Mameni is a Vancouver based artist worked in a variety of mediums including drawing, sound, and video. She does not think that bios say much about a person; for instance she knows about the precise grammatical function of semi-deponent verbs in the Latin language but cannot figure out how to make a gifStream in Dreamweaver. She wonders if this is indicative of who she really is?

Daniel Presnell and Jenni Pace perform in Hildegard and Von Bingen and operate Feed & Seed Records, Incomparables Industries (print editions), and pay annual dues to the South Appalachian Pataphysical Society. They are fond of natural hot springs, James Brown, Guy Davenport, Black Mountain College, Jonathan Williams, The Louvin Brothers, various birds, Davey Williams and Ladonna Smith, Terry Riley, Abner Jay, Geechie Wiley, Ralph Eugene Meatyard, NuGrape Soda, Paul Rudolf, Herman Sonny Blount, Clarence John Laughlin, the Saturn Bar, National Parks, the Northern Renaissance, Hermann Nitsch.
