Galeria Chilena: Artist's Talk And Slideshow

Presented by colourschool and the Or Gallery Felipe Mujica is the invited Artist in Residence at the Or Gallery, where he is currently producing a new video work. For colourschool, Felipe presents a talk and slide show documenting the activities of Galeria Chilena and the cultural landscape of Santiago in the late 90s.

Host Biographies

Based in New York City, Felipe Mujica belongs to a generation of Chilean artists who began working in the 1990s, during a critical period in Chilean history known as “the transition to democracy.” He is also one of the founders of Galeria Chilena, an artist collective that organized a series of nomadic contemporary art exhibitions in Santiago in the late 1990s and continues to organize and participate in international exhibitions and events, including ?It has to be political to look nice,? Apexart, New York, 2003; and “EiEi: International Conference of Independent Spaces,” Valparaiso, Chile, March 24- April 25, 2005. Mujica has exhibited his own work in venues such as Artists Space and Exit Art in New York, Galerie Christian Nagel in Cologne, Planet 22, Geneva; Espacio La Rebeca, Bogota; Galeria Metropolitana, and Centro Cultural Matucana 100, Santiago; and 1ra Bienal de Artes Visuales del Mercosur, Porto Alegre, Brazil.
